Bug's Mom, who writes over at My Sweet and Sour Girl, wrote the other day about the tremendous progress her daughter is making. She asks, "Who IS This Girl?" as on a recent car trip with a friend her daughter demonstrated a wisdom beyond her age. Please click the link on the question to read the story, it is quite inspiring!
I am amazed with the fact that her daughter recognized her ow need (her escalating emotions), advocated for herself, and followed through on an APPROPRIATE means of proactive problem solving to prevent what she remembers (that in itself is big) was a devastating experience. In addition, moving past the memory, and the associated anxiety it carries in order to effectively implement a strategy to prevent it from happening again, shows a tremendous amount of growth. Many adults find it difficult to do that! For children like ours it can often be extremely difficult to transfer strategies learned when they are calm into the moment of need when they are stressed. The beauty in what Bug's Mom relates is that her daughter recognized her own rising emotions and did the right thing to prevent a crisis. That speaks volumes for the awareness her daughter is achieving. I'm sure that it may not be a daily occurrence, but that brilliant moment of inspiration is a shining beacon of hope that can be referenced and built upon as time goes by. Please stop by and congratulate my friend and fellow blogger, as well as her daughter!
