Amusement Park Overload

We just spent a gloriously fun filled day at an amusement park with rides, water slides, shows, games, food smells, hot sun, and LOTS of walking.  It was a memorable day for the kids and I, but can you say SENSORY O-V-E-RLOAD?!  Sometimes, the hardest part was the reactions from others.  You wouldn't believe (well maybe you would) the looks some people gave me and/or my child(ren) from time to time throughout the day!!!  I just wanted to glare right back with disdain, but I usually caught their eyes and hoped to convey the need for understanding and patience as I did what I knew how to do to calm and de-escalate situations.  I just wonder if I didn't look pathetic.  I really did wish I had some of those little cards that I could hand to people to share that my child has a particular diagnosis and he is struggling now with managing something so please be patient. Of course it would have to be much more eloquent than that.  Have any of you ever put together or ordered cards like this?  I've heard about this idea through the Parents of Bipolar Children facebook group.

What would you have done if your child were to display the following behaviors in such a situation?  There was a meltdown with tree kicking when a plastic bracelet was lost, there was a screaming fit over needing to use the bathroom "NOW!", there was riotous laughter and shrieks of joy as a water squirt dual erupted, and when they refused to come off the same two rides over and over again while jumping, running, shrieking, and laughing the whole time. Oh, and there was the moment when I couldn't find one because he wandered around the corner to look at something then we "misplaced" each other for 15 min or so! *sigh*  Oh the fallout of unregulated emotion for that one; thankfully we were in the wave-pool!

AAaahahhhh summerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
